Hi Katie – just de-lurking briefly to say that the little green guy or gal who found his/her way into your room is probably a katydid. They’re interesting critters, but yeah, maybe not so much when you’re trying to sleep. ;)
Also, while I’m here – tons and tons of thanks for everything you do, and for taking the time to write about it. As an anarchist-minded, invisibly disabled dharma practitioner in the upper midwest, I feel pretty isolated most of the time (and am really super burned out on the yuppified, new-agey, mainstream Buddhist crap). Your words regularly inspire and challenge me, and help me feel less “out there” and alone.
Metta (and happy soon-to-be birthday wishes!),
D
Aw, D! Sweetest of de-lurks; thank you. And thanks for the katydid identification! It’s funny, I’ve heard “katydid” so much as a sometime-nickname people have tried to give me (never really stuck), but never seen one (or realized i was seeing one) in real life. Cute and loud: traits I often admire. :)
It means so much to me to know that my online notebook here is helpful at all to you. Thanks so much for saying so. And if you ever want to make media about your experiences, joys, frustrations, hopes, plans, etc. around dharma and politics, let’s talk! Now that I’ve started working for a Buddhist political group, trying to raise up the voices of those of us with more radical, collective-liberation takes on dharma, I want to use it as an opportunity to help more of us find each other and start building that network of support and ideas-sharing. It can feel so lonely! I hear you. Hit me up at kloncke [dot] bpf [at] gmail [dot] com if you feel like it.
And take good care! And thank you for the happyborthday wishes!
metta to you,
katie
