I recently bought a new camera lens off of someone on craigslist. When I met up with the seller in a sunny Burger King parking lot, turns out she was a mom with a little one in tow.
As I fiddled around with the fixed lens, she graciously allowed me to snap some shots of what was obviously the flyest subject within five miles: her son Elon.

It kind of tickles me to consider the continuity in the life of this camera lens. Vivian (the seller) bought it when her son was born, so she could capture some sweet portraits. And now, at the handoff, here I was taking pictures of the same moon-cheeked, serious-visaged boy. I like to think that it smoothed the transition. New hands; familiar subject.

You can’t really see it in these images, but this dude had a lot of energy. I love watching skilled moms and caregivers handle wriggling, wandering children. They know how to redirect the kids’ curiosity without shutting it down. Swooping with the right arm. Corralling with the left arm. Like a very gentle game of air hockey.
I want to eat him and be his best friend at the same time. Why is he so serious? What kind of baby is this delicious and this serious? Did you want to squoosh his cheeks? Ok cuteness overload, I can’t…
What a cool kid! He does look pretty hardcore serious. Lol.
